Poetry Techniques

Very often a poem affects us – we might like it, we might feel a particular emotion  - but sometimes we don’t know why, or we can’t put it into words.

Looking at poetry techniques can help with this. If we can spot a particular technique, we can start to understand why the poet used it and what effect the poet hopes it will have on us.

The techniques we'll look at in this taster course are: rhyme, repetition, alliteration and imagery.
