Answer: I remember having to learn Sea Fever by John Masefield (“ I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky …”). I also remember The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear, and The Tyger by William Blake.
I think they stayed in my mind for different reasons – I liked the rhythm of all of these poems; I enjoyed the silliness of The Owl and The Pussycat, and while I couldn’t have put it clearly into words at the time, I felt the nostalgia and longing in Sea Fever.
