Goal 1: Halve the number of people living on less than $1 a day by 2015.
This is quite a complicated bar chart. The graph is concerned with 2 years – 1990 and 2004.
The dark blue columns show figures for 1990 & the lighter blue column shows figures for 2004.
The yellow columns show us the figures for all developing countries added together.
The CIS countries ( Commonwealth of Independent States) include Russia and countries such as Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia and others that used to belong the former Soviet Union.
1) What is the title of the chart?
2) What do the X (vertical) and Y (horizontal) axes show?
3) How much is one dollar a day in pence per day? To convert one dollar ($) into pounds
(£), do the following on your calculator: 1 ¸ 1.5 (the approximate exchange rate).
4) For sub –Saharan Africa what was the percentage of people living below one dollar a day in 1990 and then in 2004?
5) What does the red line mean?
6) Give an example of ONE region of the world which has not yet met the 2015 target to reduce poverty.
7) Give ONE example of a region in the world which has met its target to reduce poverty.
